Relief carving is used in many traditional and contemporary applications from private residences, to business locations, to art museums etc. I'm a big fan of several wood carvers who have published widely, Lora Irish to name one has several books on relief carving. Chris Pye is one of the contemporary wood carving gurus who regularly teaches at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Maine as well as West Dean College Chichester, England. Another name who has influenced my carving skills as I have watched him progress is W.F. (Bill) Judt from Saskatchewan, Canada. He is a great natural artist and I appreciate his development in wood sculpture.
